Principals

Tracy Fehr and Heather Allen formed Seraphim Early Music Ensemble in 2016 to promote Medieval and Renaissance music in the Okanagan. The group collaborates with local musicians and performs a variety of repertoire including duets, trios, and group work of up to six voices.

Tracy Fehr, a lyric colouratura soprano, performs with orchestras, chamber ensembles and as a solo recitalist in Canada, Central America, North Africa and the UK. She has been featured on numerous radio/TV stations in Canada and abroad. She offers voice lessons, coaching and workshops at Tracy Fehr Voice Studio, and is a member of the BC Registered Music Teachers’ Association. Tracy holds a Bachelor of Music, Vocal Performance (with distinction) from the University of Alberta and an ARCT in Singing, Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM). She also sews period costume and fantasy wear under the design label, Medieval Fehr.

Heather Allen, also a soprano, has her Grade 10 RCM in vocal performance, has studied Renaissance music performance at the Cambridge Early Music School, studied theory, harmony and composition at UBC, and has sung in madrigal groups and ensembles across Canada.

 

Collaborative Musicians

Derek Beaton (baritone/bass) sang with the Edmonton Opera chorus for 25 years before relocating to the Okanagan, where, along with singing with Seraphim, he stars in local Soundstage musical theatre productions.

Colin Cross (bass) holds a bachelor of music education, and has sung with the UBC University Singers, Vancouver Bach Choir, Chor Leoni and Musaic. In addition to his work as the minister at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, he is a music teacher-on-call.

Jay Demetrick (tenor, counter tenor) sings regularly with Seraphim. He has his Grade 10 RCM in voice and piano, and studied harpsichord and voice for 2 years at Douglas College. He sings in the Naramata Choir, and has been in many musical theatre productions.

Nicole Handford grew up in Penticton and has studied flute for many years in the Okanagan. She currently plays flute and sings with the Kettle Valley Singers in Penticton.

Dennis Nordlund, ARCT in piano, teaches piano and music theory in Penticton. He performs as a sololist, and as an accompaniest for vocalists, choirs, instrumentalists and theatrical productions and as part of a jazz trio and chamber music ensemble.

Bob Park is a long-time music educator in the Okanagan, is trained in classical and flamenco guitar, and has also studied the lute and other historical instruments. A luthier, Bob often plays on instruments of his own construction.

Olivia Walsh has a degree in cello performance from the University of Alberta. Olivia is a section cellist in both the Okanagan Symphony and the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, and has recently rediscovered a joy for singing.
